Two forms of non-invasive echocardiography diagnostics are available at KCC.

Transthoracic Echocardiogram

A transthoracic echocardiogram is a non-invasive test.  During the procedure, a wand (transducer) sends sound waves to the heart as it is moved over the patient’s skin on the chest area. Images of the front and sides of the heart are produced.

Transesophageal Echocardiogram

A transesophageal echocardiogram is used to determine how the small, detailed structures of the heart and vessels are functioning.  The TEE uses ultrasound waves to produces images of the heart by passing a tube through the esophagus into the stomach.
